Triac

The Triac is a thyristor, a four layer device, that is essentially a reversed parallel pair of SCRs:

Unlike an SCR, though, a triac is a bidirectional thyristor -- it can conduct electricity in both directions. One disadvantage of this is that triacs require a fairly high current pulse to turn them on.
