Inverter  An electronic device used to invert the logic level input to it (i.e., an inverter changes a logic "high" to a "low", or vice versa); inverters also provide buffer functionality. Accordingly, the symbol for an inverter is derived from that for a buffer. Compare this to a Schmitt inverter and to a buffer. Inverters are available for BEAM use on any 74*04 or 74*240 IC (where "*" is the chip's family -- AC / ACT / HC / HCT).
