Current carrier An entity that can carry electrical current
-- either an electron, or a
hole. Both electrons and holes
are mobile, and under the influence of a voltage they are
caused to move, and this constitutes a current.
In a semiconductor, either
an electron or a hole
will predominate as current carrier -- in N-type
semiconductors, electrons
are the (predominant) majority
carriers, and holes are the
minority carriers. In a
P-type semiconductor,
this situation is reversed.
